Indonesian Tennis Players Challenge Top Seeds at the Detec International Junior Championship

– Tennis players Farren Alysia Sandy and Rafalentino Ali Da Costa are preparing to challenge the first seeds in the second round of the second week of the Detec International Championship, Tuesday (23/5/2023).

In the first round of the ITF J30 level tournament on the Sultan Agung field, Bantul DIY, Monday (22/5/2023). Farren won over Yori Utsuyama (Japan) 6-2 6-1.

“The key is to play calmly. Anyway, just have faith in your own strokes and focus on every point,” said the tennis player who idolizes Aldila Sutjiadi.

In the round of 32, the tennis player from Pati (Central Java) will challenge the first seed, Kholisa Siti Maisaroh.

“So far, I have lost more often than Lisa at the national level. For tomorrow, there’s nothing to lose. Keep fighting,” he said.

“I’m trying to find points and improve the international rankings. Apart from that, the opportunity to play against foreign tennis players is a valuable experience. This is important for finding college scholarships,” he added.

Meanwhile, Rafaletino Ali Da Costa had a similar fate in the men’s singles. In the second round, Falen, who is only 13 years old, will challenge Kai En-Yang, the top seed from Taiwan.

In the round of 64, the Serena Williams fan beat Thailand’s Danthai Thakong in a double bagel 6-0 6-0.

“When my opponent started having trouble, I gave him a drop shot. The rhythm of the opponent’s game was disrupted,” said the tennis player who was selected for the ITF Tour Team to Europe 2023.

As a tournament in the official ITF competition calendar, the Detec International Junior Championship is the entry point for Indonesian tennis players to the world tennis event.

“Seeing the foreign tennis players who have come to Yogyakarta, the host tennis players have a great chance to be on the championship podium,” said IJC 2023 Detec Tournament Director, Anshari Nursida.
