Indonesia’s Results at the Paris Olympics Did Not Meet Public Expectations

Jakarta, Todaysgist.com – The General Chairperson of the Central Board of the Indonesian Badminton Association (PP PBSI) Agung Firman Sampurna said that the results achieved by Indonesia at the 2024 Paris Olympics did not meet public expectations.

“I realize that the results achieved by the Indonesian badminton team at the 2024 Paris Olympics did not meet public expectations,” said Agung in his statement, Saturday (3/8/2024).

According to him, preparations for the 2024 Paris Olympics have been carried out optimally, from technical to non-technical aspects. “However, the results on the field say otherwise,” he said.

Agung expressed his gratitude for the hard work of the PBSI AdHoc Team and the entire supporting team who have maximally prepared the athletes to compete in the 2024 Paris Olympics.

“Thank you also to Badminton Lovers and the Indonesian people who have given support and prayers to the Indonesian team. I apologize if the results are beyond expectations,” he said.

According to him, currently Gregoria Mariska Tunjung is still struggling to carry the Red and White banner. “Keep giving support and prayers so that we can achieve the best results for Indonesia,” said Agung.

Reportedly, women’s singles player Gregoria Mariska Tunjung advanced to the semifinals of the 2024 Paris Olympics in badminton after defeating Thailand’s Ratchanok Intanon 25-23, 21-9, Saturday (3/8/2024). However, she did not want to be satisfied with that achievement.

“This is a great achievement for me, but again I don’t want to be too complacent. Tomorrow’s match will be tougher and I have to get ready soon,” said Gregoria.

According to Gregoria, the opponent she will face in the semifinals of the 2024 Paris Olympics is an opponent she has already defeated. In the semifinals, Gregoria is waiting for South Korean representative An Se-young who defeated Japanese representative Akane Yamaguchi.
