Indra Sjafri’s U-20 National Team Will Undergo Training Center at IKN

Jakarta, Todaysgist.com – PSSI General Chairman, Erick Thohir, stated that the Indonesian U-20 National Team will undergo a training camp in the Indonesian Capital (IKN), East Kalimantan, after the inauguration of the first phase of the PSSI Training Center.

“The U-20 National Team will be there for one week,” said Erick at the Gelora Bung Karno Main Stadium (SUGBK), Jakarta, Saturday (21/0/2024).

Erick explained that while in the IKN, the U-20 National Team will utilize all the facilities that PSSI has there to assess its strengths and weaknesses.

According to him, the U-20 team staff were asked to note various positive and negative aspects of the existing infrastructure, then report them to PSSI.

“This is important so that we can ensure that the players and coaches feel comfortable there, while also testing their commitment to stay focused,” he said.

However, Erick has not been able to confirm exactly when the U-20 National Team, which is currently coached by Indra Sjafri, will begin training camp at the IKN.

However, the Minister of State-Owned Enterprises confirmed that the first phase of the construction of the PSSI Training Center in the IKN will be inaugurated by President Joko Widodo on October 11, 2024. FIFA President Gianni Infantino also attended the event.

In this first phase, two training fields and a dormitory with a capacity of 85 rooms will be inaugurated.

Erick added that this facility will mainly be used by the national age group teams, both men’s and women’s.

The PSSI Training Center in IKN has an area of ​​around 34.5 hectares. Once the entire construction is complete, the complex will have eight fields and a dormitory that can accommodate up to 138 people, including players, coaches, and head coaches.

The facility is also equipped with supporting facilities such as a physiotherapy room, fitness center, and medical services.

To support the construction of the PSSI Training Center, FIFA through the FIFA Forward program has provided a grant of US$ 5.6 million or around Rp. 85 billion.

Meanwhile, the Indonesian government has allocated funds of IDR 127.10 billion in 2024 to support the equipment and operations of the PSSI Training Center in the IKN, as well as other PSSI programs such as training camps for the men’s and women’s national teams at home and abroad, organizing various competitions including the Indonesian League 3, and improving technical knowledge and football management through training for coaches and referees.
