Inspired by Taipei Open Results, Putri KW Advances to Last 16 of Hong Kong Open

 Indonesian women’s singles Putri Kusuma Wardani admitted that she was inspired by the results at the Taipei Open last week so that she managed to beat Shung Suo Yun from Taiwan in the last 32 of the 2024 Hong Kong Open, Wednesday (11/9/2024).

Playing at the Hong Kong Coliseum Putri defeated Shung with a score of 21-18 and 21-12. Putri won a ticket to the last 16 after stopping Shung in 35 minutes.

Putri admitted that her performance last week that brought her to the Taipei Open final had an impact on her match at the Hong Kong Open. At the Taipei Open, she managed to advance to the final match before being defeated by South Korean representative Sim Yu-jin.

“The result at Taipei Open last week had quite an impact on my performance today. I am more confident,” said Putri after defeating Shung.

Putri admitted that Shung was actually a good opponent. Putri also lost to Shung in their last two meetings at the 2023 and 2024 Asian Championships.

“Today I was braver to attack because in terms of the field it was less suitable for playing rallies. In the second game at the beginning I was in a hurry so I made many mistakes myself. After the interval break, Kak Rionny (the accompanying coach) gave instructions not to rush to kill the opponent,” he said.
