A cryptocurrency investor lost 10 Bitcoins (BTC) and another $1.5 million in NFTswhich totals a loss of almost US$2 million in current values. At first, the user blamed Ledger, the manufacturer of the wallet he used. However, the case apparently was a phishing attack mixed with personal failure.

Furthermore, Jefferson Rondolfo, founder of KriptoBR and official Ledger reseller in Brazil, highlighted that the investor also did not put the passphrase in his portfolio. This made it easier for hackers to use phishing, invade and steal funds.

This case illustrates the need for cryptocurrency users to have secure wallets and add protections to them. And one of main Web3 wallets, Best Wallet (BEST), has its token pre-sale open.

With more than US$4 million in its public pre-sale, Best Wallet is the best option on the market to take advantage of unmissable launches and keep your tokens safe. You can purchase yours by clicking here and participating in the pre-sale.

Understand the case

On Thursday (12) the investor, who goes by the pseudonym Anchor Drops, went to X and revealed his loss. According to the publication, he had 10 BTC and another collection of NFTs stored on a Ledger Nano S. But when he went to look at his final balance, everything was gone.

Initially, the investor stated that had not signed any suspicious transactions and had never left his private key exposed to the internet. However, the X community fixed it via the Notes service after another user explained that Anchor Drops actually made a mistake.

This user, identified with KDean, explained that the investor’s portfolio had at least three transaction signatures made on suspicious protocols. The signatures were dated three years ago, but malware apparently activated phishing and gained access to the wallet, stealing all the cryptocurrencies.

One of the transactions is identified as “Fake_Phishing5443” and it was signed 1,019 days ago, that is, almost three years. Despite the time, the scam worked and the hackers were able to access Ledger and divert the stolen funds.

A curious point was that the phishing attack occurred on an Ethereum (ETH) address, not a BTC one. Therefore, one of the X users stated that it was impossible for this “cross phishing” to occur between different blockchains. In response, KDean explained that the scam was not the only problem.

The same thing said Jefferson Rondolfo, creator of KriptoBR. According to the businessman, the absence of a seedphrase It can greatly compromise the security of your wallet.
