Jay Idzes Becomes First Indonesian Player to Play in Italian Serie A League

Jakarta, Todaysgist.com – Indonesian National Team (Timnas) player, Jay Idzes, has just made history as the first Indonesian player to play in Serie A, the Italian League. In his debut with Venezia, Jay helped his team win one point after drawing 0-0 against Fiorentina at the Artemio Franchi Stadium on Sunday (25/8/2024).

In the goalless match, Jay played solidly in the back line. Venezia coach Eusebio Di Francesco started him in a three-man defence with Marin Sverko and Giorgio Altare.

Idzes even almost scored in the 18th minute when he received a brilliant pass from Alfred Duncan in a corner kick. Receiving the ball in front of the goal, Jay made a first-time shot that unfortunately soared over the crossbar.

Serie A statistics note, in 68 minutes of play the 24-year-old naturalized defender recorded three sweeps, one interception, one tackle, and 58 touches. He also recorded 52 passes with 96% accuracy, two successful long balls from four attempts, one duel win from four opportunities, and one aerial duel win from four opportunities.

This match was Idzes’ first in Serie A. Previously, he missed the opening match against Lazio due to accumulation of yellow cards from the Serie B promotion playoffs. Idzes’ absence affected Venezia’s defense as they lost 1-3 to Lazio.

This draw temporarily puts Venezia in 17th place in the standings with one point. In the third week, Venezia will play at home against Torino at the Pier Luigi Penzo Stadium on Friday (30/8/2024) at 23.30 WIB.
