Jay Idzes Leads Club to First Serie A Win

Jakarta, Todaysgist.com – Indonesian national team defender Jay Idzes played the full 90 minutes in Venezia’s first win in Serie A against Genoa, Saturday (21/9/2024).

The match of the 5th week of the Italian League ended with a score of 2-0 for Venezia at the Pier Luigi Penzo Stadium. Venezia’s two goals were scored by Gianluca Busio and Joel Pohjanpalo.

Venezia, who used a 3-5-2 formation, placed Jay Idzes as a central defender with Michael Svoboda and Antonio Candela.

With this win, Venezia moved up to 15th place with four points from five games, while Genoa are in 11th place with five points, according to the official Serie A website.

Genoa almost got a penalty in the 17th minute, but after a review video assistant referee (VAR), the decision was overturned because it was deemed that no violation had occurred.

In contrast, Venezia were awarded a penalty in the 55th minute after Gianluca Busio was brought down by Koni De Winter in the Genoa penalty box.

However, the penalty taken by Joel Pohjanpalo was saved by Genoa goalkeeper Pierluigi Gollini, so the score remained 0-0.

Venezia finally broke the deadlock in the 63rd minute. Gianluca Busio scored the first goal after receiving a pass from Candela, capitalizing on a mistake by Genoa goalkeeper Gollini.

The hosts extended their lead in the 85th minute. Joel Pohjanpalo made amends for his earlier penalty miss, this time converting assist from John Yeboah.

Venezia managed to maintain their 2-0 lead until the final whistle and achieved their first win in Serie A.
