Jesus Navas Announces Retirement as a Footballer
Sevilla, Beritasatu.com – Sevilla legend Jesus Navas announced his retirement as a football player to coincide with the completion of his contract on Tuesday (31/12/2024). Jesus Navas said goodbye to his career as a player at the Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan Stadium which was filled with Sevilla supporters.
Jesus Navas is a player who grew up in the Sevilla academy and has played 705 matches for the club over 18 seasons. He played for Manchester City in 183 matches from 2013 to 2017.
39-year-old Jesus Navas had to end his career as a footballer after suffering a chronic hip injury that had bothered him in recent seasons.
“I live to give joy to Sevilla and Spanish fans. If it weren’t for the hip injury, I would have continued playing, that’s for sure. That’s why it’s very difficult for me to say that this is the end of the season,” Navas told a packed crowd of around 45,000 fans. stadium.
“I have suffered from hip problems for several years, but in recent weeks the condition has worsened,” he added.
At the farewell event, Jesus Navas was given a framed T-shirt with his name and the number 705 after being accompanied on stage by his wife, two sons and parents as the audience clapped and chanted his name.
Throughout his playing career, Jesus Navas has collected 15 trophies, a record four trophies with the Spanish national team (World Cup 2010, Euro 2012, UEFA Nations League 2023 and Euro 2024), and eight trophies with Sevilla.
