Jojo Stops, No Indonesian Representatives in 2024 China Open Final

Jakarta, Todaysgist.com – Indonesia failed to qualify its athletes for the 2024 China Open final after three of its representatives stopped in the semifinals, Saturday (21/9/2024).

Men’s singles player Jonatan Christie who appeared as the last Indonesian representative in the last four round also failed to get a ticket to the final match after surrendering to the host representative Wong Hang Yang with a score of 17-21 and 18-21. Jojo fell after playing for 59 minutes.

In the previous match, two Indonesian representatives were also eliminated in the semifinals. They were mixed doubles Dejan Ferdinansyah/Gloria Emanuelle Widjaja, and men’s doubles Muhammad Shohibul Fikri/Daniel Marthin.

Dejan/Gloria surrendered to second seeds Feng Yan Zhe/Huang Dong Ping from China, 1621- and 15-21. Meanwhile, the men’s doubles Fikri/Daniel stopped after being unable to overcome the challenge of Gih Sze Fei/Nur Izzuddin from Malaysia, 14-21, 22-24.

Jojo felt the field conditions changed drastically compared to before. However, he still thanked God for today’s results.

“First, I don’t know why the field conditions changed 180 degrees from before. Usually, when winning and losing, the wind is very noticeable, today there was no wind at all. That made a slight change from the way of playing that was prepared,” explained the 2024 All England champion.

Jojo added, in this match he had to adapt again. In several occasions he should have gotten points, but instead made mistakes. “That little mistake in a match like this can change things, maybe if he didn’t do that the story could be different,” he said.

On the other hand, Jojo continued, in such a condition, Wang who died should have gotten points instead. This certainly increased his confidence level.

“Today I admit that my finishing was less calm and my ball handling was a bit hesitant. Not clear enough. This is very unfortunate, but this is a very valuable lesson,” said the men’s singles player ranked eighth.
