Desk. The sit-in of star wrestlers at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar against Wrestling Federation of India President Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh continues. He has been continuously protesting against Brij Bhushan alleging molestation and harassment and raising his demands. All the stars of the film industry have come forward to support the wrestlers on this issue. Veteran actor Kamal Haasan has also extended his support to the wrestlers.
A month has passed since the wrestlers protested. On the anniversary of one month, Kamal Haasan encouraged the wrestlers by tweeting. He tweeted, ‘Today marks one month of protests by athletes from the wrestling fraternity. Instead of fighting for national pride, we have forced them to fight for personal security. At the same time Kamal asked that who is worthy of our attention i.e. on whom should we pay more attention? Our national sporting icon or a politician with an extensive criminal history?
As soon as the actor shared the post, Twitter was flooded with comments. One user wrote, ‘When most of the leading actors and celebrities of Bollywood are silent on this issue, Kamal Haasan is the only biggest star who came forward and supported our national icon for his justice. At the same time, a user wrote, ‘Thank you very much for taking this campaign forward.’
In fact, many wrestlers like Vinesh Phogat, Sakshi Malik, Bajrang Punia have been protesting against Brijbhushan Sharan Singh at Jantar Mantar for the last two weeks. The wrestlers also claimed that the Delhi Police manhandled them during their protest. This protest started on 23rd April and no action has been taken by the government so far.
Prior to Kamal Haasan, celebrities such as Pooja Bhatt, Sonu Sood, Gauahar Khan, Vidyut Jammwal and Swara Bhaskar had supported the wrestlers and forwarded their plea since their protest began in April last month. Kamal Haasan is currently working on ‘Indian 2’. Kajal Aggarwal, Siddharth, Rakul Preet Singh and Gulshan Grover are also with him in this film.
