Keep Winning Up to 5 Series, Red Bull Boss Wonders Mercedes and Ferrari Can’t Fight
The Red Bull team has never started a Formula 1 (F1) season as well as this 2023 racing season, and are left wondering what happened to rivals like Ferrari and Mercedes. This was revealed by Red Bull team boss Christian Horner on Sunday (7/5/2023) US time, after winning five wins in five race series.
Even at four grands prix, Red Bull has been able to claim one-two finishes, with two-time world champion Max Verstappen now on three wins for the season after a superb run in Miami, while his Mexican teammate Sergio Perez has won twice.
“Five races, five wins plus a sprint (in Baku), four one-two finishes. We’ve never started like this before. And we wonder where the others are?” Horner told Sky Sports television.
“We have made normal strides… over the winter and more where are Ferrari and Mercedes going?”
“They are working hard, I believe big improvement for (the upcoming races) in Europe and with the penalties we have to develop the car at the end of the year, it is important for us to get as much fresh air as possible between us and the drivers. opposition at this stage.”
Champions Red Bull last October was awarded a 10 percent reduction in wind tunnel time as a result of a “minor breach” of the fee cap in 2021.
Ferrari and Mercedes have not been able to win a race this year, with Aston Martin now in second overall albeit by a fair distance.
Red Bull’s level of dominance in Sunday’s race at the Hard Rock Circuit is evident by the gap between them and previous strong rivals.
Verstappen started the race in ninth, two places behind Charles Leclerc of Ferrari. The two-time world champion and last year’s Miami GP winner ended the race first and was 52.988 seconds ahead of his rival Monaco driver.
In third place, Aston Martin driver Fernando Alonso was 26.305 seconds behind Verstappen.
“Obviously the race pace advantage is, in my opinion, quite large at the moment,” said the Dutchman.
