KONI: This is Indonesia’s historical record at the 2023 SEA Games

– Cambodia’s SEA Games 2023 has ended. Indonesia has recorded a lot of history, especially from the sport of football, ending a long fast of 32 years. Then there is the 5×5 women’s basketball team that also won a gold medal, pencak silat which became the overall champion and many other records.

Deputy I General Chair of the Central Indonesian National Sports Committee (KONI), Suwarno said that unfortunately, several sports that excelled at the Vietnam SEA Games were not competed at the Cambodian SEA Games.

Call it shooting, rowing (rowing and canoing) and archery. Even though some of these sports are medal barns for Indonesia.

The absence of several sports is certainly detrimental to Indonesia. However, the nation’s sports patriots are not afraid and are still struggling to fill the absence of Indonesia’s medal barn.

“I thank you for your prayers, encouragement, support for both moral and material assistance to the contingents so that Indonesia can show its best potential at the SEA Games Cambodia 2023. We hope that later at the SEA Games in 2025, we will have a better chance,” said Suwarno in Jakarta, Sunday (21/5/2023).

Regarding the achievements of the Indonesian women’s 5×5 Basketball Team, Suwarno said that this was all the result of the efforts of all parties, especially from the hard work of the Central Board of the Indonesian Basketball Association (PP Perbasi) which is currently led by Kho Poo Thai or Danny Kosasih who continues to strive to coaching basketball athletes so that they become extraordinary.

Throughout the history of the SEA Games, the Indonesian Women’s Basketball National Team won three silver medals in 2021, 2015 and 1991 and five bronze medals in 2019, 2017, 1997, 1989 and 1979. This was the first time they won a gold medal.

Dewa Ayu Made Sriartha Kusuma Dewi, a 5×5 Women’s Basketball athlete who won a gold medal, said that preparations were made as best as possible. In terms of the preparation of coaches and players, the coach has prepared a strategy well prepared to fight against all countries, so during the training process the coach gives us material to learn strategies from opponents.

“The difference in this year’s SEA Games, the team prepared carefully, the coach gave material to study the strengths and weaknesses of each country’s opponents,” said Ayu.

“I hope that the basketball team in Indonesia will get the attention of the government and the women’s basketball league can restart so that women’s basketball can develop,” he concluded.
