Kraken Launches New Desktop App for Cryptocurrency Traders

Cryptocurrency exchange Kraken has launched a new desktop app aimed at active traders. The app allows you to follow dozens of market feeds in real time through a customizable interface, equipped with technical analysis tools and exclusive charts. Called Kraken Desktop, the launch took place after a successful private testing phase.
According to the company’s statement, Kraken Desktop offers full access to all of the exchange’s spot and futures markets. Furthermore, it has new features that aim to provide a more robust and comprehensive trading experience for the user.
The platform will replace Cryptowatch, a popular charting and trading tool that Kraken stopped offering in July 2023. The discontinuation led to disappointment among its users. At the time, Kraken co-founder Jesse Powell even considered keeping Cryptowatch in a fixed paid version. However, he chose to discontinue it and encouraged users to migrate to Kraken Pro, the exchange’s advanced trading interface.
Now, Kraken Desktop will complement the web and mobile platforms that the exchange already offers. The idea is to elevate Cryptowatch’s legacy with an expanded set of tools and features.
Kraken launches app for traders
According to Kraken co-CEO David Ripley, the company has worked for over a decade to provide active traders with some of the best analysis and trading capabilities in the crypto market. With Kraken Desktop, the goal is to provide an even more complete and efficient experience.
The platform uses technology based on the Rust programming language, which offers greater speed and reliability in data processing. Furthermore, the solution has a reduced memory consumption, which guarantees low latency in operations.
The application, available for download on Windows, Mac and Linux systems, has been optimized for order execution and multi-window support. It also has advanced tools such as ladder trading, which allows you to define multiple limit orders, and shortcuts for auto-join, enabling two-sided orders quickly to take advantage of market changes.
For Clark Moody, senior engineering manager at Kraken Desktop, active traders play a fundamental role in liquidity and price discovery in the crypto market. However, there are few platforms specifically aimed at this audience. With the new application, Kraken seeks to meet this demand by offering an advanced and complete tool to improve the trading experience and participation of these users in the market.
In addition to Kraken Desktop, the exchange has invested in launching other products aimed at the cryptoactive market. Among the new features are kBTC, a version of Bitcoin encapsulated in Ethereum and the OP Mainnet, as well as the announcement of a new Ethereum Layer 2 layer called Ink, scheduled to debut in early 2025 and developed based on the OP Stack.
