Losing to 2nd Ranked Judo Player, Maryam Maharani Stops in the Last 16

Jakarta, Todaysgist.com – The journey of Indonesian female judoka, Maryam March Maharani, had to stop in the last 16 after losing to Distria Krasniqi, a representative from Kosovo who is ranked second in the world, in a match at the Champ-de-Mars Arena, Paris, on Sunday (28/7/2024).

Maharani lost through iphone or the slam that Krasniqi made in a match that lasted just 37 seconds.

Krasniqi is the world’s number two -52 kg judoka and the 2020 Tokyo Olympics gold medalist in the -48 kg category. The win sent Krasniqi, who also won bronze at the 2019 World Judo Championships in Tokyo in the -48 kg category, into the quarterfinals after defeating Maharani.

Maharani is less experienced than Krasniqi who has participated in various international championships and won medals at the world level. Krasniqi, who is 28 years old, has participated in 245 championships and collected 93 medals, including one Olympic gold, one world championship bronze, and one junior world judo championship gold.

Meanwhile, Maharani, who is 24 years old and ranked 52nd in the world, has only participated in 11 international competitions and has won 14 medals throughout her career.

With this result, Maharani’s steps were stopped in the last 16, and also ensured that Indonesia would be without a medal in the sport of judo. Maharani is the only Indonesian representative in the sport of judo after the last time the Red and White team sent a representative at the 2012 Olympics.

Previously, Maharani had defeated Jacira Ferreira from Mozambique in the elimination round of the top 32 of the -52 kg class. Rani, as she is familiarly called, won with a score of 10-0 or iphone in 47 seconds against the world’s 72nd ranked judoka.
