Manoj talked about the film ‘Sirf Ek Banda Kafi Hai’. He told that this film is not based on Asaram Bapu. When the story was told to me, when the script was written, we did not have a biography of any particular person in mind. But yes, he had given us permission to use Solanki sahib’s name which I am playing, so only that name has been taken in the film. The film is based on a true incident. The film is coming on OTT, not in theatres.

OTT very good medium
OTT is not just a platform. Apart from cinema, there is a different medium of entertainment. He can show more and more stories there. He is giving business to many people. Talented people are entering our industry through OTT. Work is increasing in OTT. People have got work. Everything is now available on OTT. In such a situation, people have reduced going to theaters as well. Because people have got a comfort, that too sitting at home and enjoying a movie. By the way, there has been a lot of change in the content of OTT as well. The stories are being shown in a more refined manner.

What is the future of cinema?
I believe that both OTT and theater will be running equally in future. OTT has a different audience. Apart from the theatre. I want cinema to grow, but for that people have to connect with cinema. If cinema has to connect with the people, it has to reach as many people as possible.

I can’t relate to the elite class of celebrities. I have to be like that to get there. I don’t think I can be anything else now. I want to stay where I came from. I don’t want to change myself. I do not want to come in that category. I am a part of the film world. I am not standing in the middle of this. I am a simple person, I am happy in that.

i don’t depend on box office
I always wanted and want to get work in cinema on merit. Don’t always do box office, box office. If I look at myself, I have been the worst in my career of 30 years. Most of my films have been flops. I am not here in the cinema because of the box office numbers. I am here because I got good films (somewhere), I got good work. Got a chance to work with good people. As long as I keep getting films, I will keep working. Will be associated with this industry.

How do you choose movies?
I love independent parallel cinema. When cinema was invented, it was not in our mind that a lot of money would be earned from it. It was a medium to tell a story. I want good stories to happen. I don’t work just for money. I work for both expression and storytelling. Although, the balance between these two has ended in today’s time, but for me cinema means playing the character. The character that gives me strength by playing, the director sees my work as a talent, I like to work in that way. It takes a lot of hard work in the character that I do. I do that. When the film is shown at the international level and the performance is appreciated there, then that thing is very big for me. I feel very happy.

Film for money or for your satisfaction?
I have been doing commercial films. I will do it further also. I will do the films for which I think it is my type. The character which is related to the public, I will do that. Money is a very important thing, but I have to understand its limits. how much money So should I weigh my talent with money, no. If I see that I have to do some work to stay in the market, then I do films. I do some films for myself which are not commercial.

I don’t like to do rolls for a few minutes. If I go to commercial films, the role will be the same as that of the main character. Even if I remain on the poster, I will remain in that commercial film. Otherwise I will not. You can call it ego.

How much money are you taking for a film?

first party in mumbai
When Manoj went to Mumbai with friend Saurabh Shukla, he had his first party there. When I lived in Mukherjee Nagar, Delhi, we used to get two newspapers there. The one who tied it and the rest one for everyone. Newspapers used to do two things. A chicken was bought. And the bottle was ordered from an old monk’s military canteen. We all used to cook together. Then everyone used to sit and eat and drink on the terrace. After so many experiences, that joy has not come till date.

Haven’t eaten dinner in 14 years
My grandfather died at the age of 94-95. He used to wake up every morning at 4 o’clock and worship. He used to eat food at 6 in the evening and then did not eat anything. I went to many dieticians. gaining weight. Sleep is not coming properly. But then I started trying Baba’s routine. This is what I did for two weeks. He used to sit down after having dinner at 6 pm. I also stopped drinking alcohol during that time. After that my weight started reducing and my health also got better. When he met the doctor, he told that if every person leaves the dinner, then more than half of his diseases will be cured.

Aks, the first film with Amitabh
I didn’t have a fan boy moment with Amitabh Bachchan. I worked with him as an actor. I have worked with Amitabh ji, he has been a wonderful co-star so far. No one has been as big a co-star as him for me till now. After running away from the village, I wanted to become an actor. When I got a chance to work with Amitabh, I wanted to do good work. Didn’t want to live in his shadow. I only showed my talent in the film. I thought of getting my work 200 per cent right and working with him has been a great journey.

Shahrukh and Manoj were batchmates
I worked with Shahrukh in ‘Veer-Zaara’. The track of both of us has been different in the industry. The genre of choosing films of both of us is also different. I came as far as I could go. I am proud of my journey. But at the same time there is a lot of respect for Shahrukh. He has suffered a lot. What did he make, how did he make it. It is a big thing to get out of the condition in which he was and to achieve this position for himself. Shahrukh is very hardworking. I still pray for Shahrukh from my heart. Shahrukh even broke his bones to get what he wanted.

Shah Rukh Khan is an outsider, but the place he has made is huge. Everyone wants to sit with him. But this world is different for me. I like it when people call me an outsider. My way is very different. I am in the film industry but I have made my own way. I have not been a victim of libel because the kind of roles that I do, they cannot do the kind of roles that I did. My kind of films do not make stars. People like us who have come from outside should stop giving nepotism a little attention. The people who are coming from outside, their family or their parents have only one thing in common, that is their ability. If you do not have talent and will shout nepotism, nepotism then nothing can happen to you. I got the job after learning the job. If you are not getting work in cinema then do theatre. Nepotism has been around for many years. But by repeatedly making it an excuse and telling about one’s own pain, that thing is wrong.

Sushant became a victim of politics
Many things were troubling Sushant mentally. He used to discuss with me. The kind of actor he wanted to become, he had to go through a lot of politics to get there. There is a lot of politics involved in taking that position, so Sushant was not able to bear it. But he did not have the power to tolerate this politics. He could not bear it. He was a child. So further things happened. If you talk about me, I am a thick skinned man. I don’t want to go where politics is happening.

not interested in politics
I have no interest in politics. Both my father and father were from the Jansangh party, but I wanted to become an actor from the age of 18. I was away from parents. It was a drawback for me that I did not see my parents grow old. I feel very bad thinking about this. I wanted to see the parents getting old. It was not even before to go to Rajmeeti. It’s not today as well. Don’t know how many times the media has made me stand from the seat of Bettiah. But the truth is that brother, I am not going anywhere except cinema.
