Mbappé-inspired memecoin yields 4,000% profit for trader

The memecoin and token wheel of fortune has started spinning again, bringing very different results with the same token. Two traders bet their chips on MBAPPE, a token inspired by French soccer star Kylian Mbappé. One of them had returns of 4,330%, while another suffered a heavy loss of US$ 1 million.

The winning trader invested $29 in the then-unknown memecoin and managed to turn that sum into $125,000 as the memecoin appreciated. However, the other investor lost $1 million after falling for a rug pull scam involving the same token.

On the other hand, Pepe Unchained remains one of the safest bets for those who want to avoid falling for memecoin scams. In addition to its innovative proposal, the memecoin’s pre-sale reached US$11 million, indicating a strong increase in demand, and you still have the chance to acquire your tokens before the pre-sale ends.

4,330% reward with MBAPPE token

According to data platform Lookonchain, MBAPPE launched this week, and a trader bought $29 worth of the token after its launch. The trader invested in the token at the perfect time, as its value instantly skyrocketed after the launch.

Proving his good timing, the trader sold his investment and pocketed a profit of 4,330%. Soon after making the sale, the value of MBAPPE fell by more than 70%.

According to Lookonchain’s reports, the trader spent just 0.2 Solana (SOL), equivalent to $29, on the token and sold it three minutes later, receiving 866.13 SOL (about $125,100). In addition, the trader purchased 251 other memecoins, investing amounts ranging from 0.1 to 0.3 SOL.

The trader’s success rate in the operations was 35.46% and his total profit was US$ 126.7 thousand. In other words, the vast majority of the trader’s income came from a single successful bet.

$1 million loss with MBAPPE

In another report, Lookonchain showed the downside of memecoin betting, with one investor losing nearly a million while trading MBAPPE. This trader went the opposite route to the first, paying over 7,000 SOL to buy the token, which equates to $1.03 million at current prices.

However, he didn’t have the same timing as the first trader and bought right after the token’s price spiked. After the price dropped an hour before he bought, the trader’s MBAPPE holdings dropped to less than $10,000. That’s a loss of over 99%.

Eventually, it was discovered that the MBAPPE token was actually a scam. Hackers had hacked into the player’s X account and promoted the token, causing a sharp rise in prices. The hackers sold their tokens shortly after the price spiked, causing the sharp drop that led to the trader’s multi-million dollar loss.

In the Mbappé case, the creator hacked the football player’s account to promote the recently launched token on pump.fun. The hacker promoted the token on Mbappé’s X account, which has more than 14.4 million followers.

In short, both traders fell for a scam promoted on X, but one managed to get the timing of buying and selling right, while the other suffered heavy losses.
