Measuring the Potential of Prabowo King Maker in the 2024 Presidential Election

The 2024 General Election for President and Vice President (Pilpres) will be the fourth election that Prabowo Subianto will take part in. Since its establishment in 2008, the Great Indonesia Movement Party (Gerindra) has become a political force in Indonesia. Likewise with the general chairman figure, Prabowo, who is now counted as one of the senior figures in national politics.

Prabowo’s friends and opponents in the previous three presidential elections, have now become king maker. Yes, Megawati Soekarnoputri, who she accompanied in the 2009 presidential election, has successfully spawned the figure of Joko Widodo as president in the 2014 and 2019 presidential elections.

Likewise with Prabowo’s rival, Jusuf Kalla, who is now a figure touted as king maker for the presidential candidate of the Change Coalition for Unity (KPP), Anies Baswedan. Then, Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY) is now trying to encourage his son, Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono, to accompany Anies.

Even the figure who defeated Prabowo in the 2014 and 2019 presidential elections, Joko Widodo is now also mentioned as king maker. Jokowi is predicted to be trying to form a grand coalition consisting of parties supporting the current government, minus Nasdem. Jokowi is also said to be trying to make Prabowo’s figure a potential vice presidential candidate (bacawapres) from the presidential candidate (bacapres) promoted by PDIP, Ganjar Pranowo.
