One of the most common criticisms directed at memecoins is that they are useless. However, Siqi Chen’s story refutes this criticism with real data. This is because the investor and father of a beautiful child shared his drama on social media and saw his cause raise more than US$ 1 million to a cancer treatment research fund. All this thanks to a memecoin created on the Solana network.
When Siqi Chen shared a message on his X account, he had no idea that he was about to make a real change in the lives of thousands of people. THE post, shared on September 27, came with the sad news that her daughter Mira had been diagnosed with a rare case of brain tumor.
Called craniopharyngiomathe tumor despite being benign, there was no cure. Over the months, thousands of users began following Siqi Chen’s networks in search of news about Mira’s fight against the tumor.
On December 24th, the father shared the news. He said that Mira was undergoing an experimental treatment, led by the Dr. Todd Hankinson, a physician at the University of Colorado who leads the only laboratory in the world specialized in this type of tumor.
Memecoin and solidarity
Thus, Siqi made an appeal to the followers, asking them to help finance Dr. Hankinson’s project. He shared the link (here, if you want to help) of a fundraising campaign stating that all the money raised would go towards Dr. Hankinson’s research. The goal was to raise US$100,000, but in three days, the campaign raised almost US$300,000..
On Christmas Eve, the 25th, after followers asked if they could donate cryptocurrencies, Chen created and shared the address of two crypto wallets, one for receiving BTC and the other for receiving SOL.
Just an hour later, Siqi shared the fact that he had received thousands of MIRA memecoin tokens from an unknown person.
Chen was unaware of the existence of those tokens, but at the time he received them, they were already worth around US$400,000. A few hours later, a trade called Waddles sent a public message to Chen saying he purchased 50% of the total supplies and sent it to the girl’s father in hopes of engaging the Solana community around a good cause.
As a result, memecoin began to appreciate rapidly. Siqi said he didn’t know what to do with the tokens because he didn’t want to scam people. At the same time, he wanted to contribute more to the research project. So, a few minutes later, he came back and shared his plan.
The next day (26) Siqi put the plan into practice and liquidated 10% of his $MIRA tokens that he had received from the mysterious investor. Shared the sale and thanked the Solana community for contributing an additional $49,263 to Hankinson Lab. Furthermore, he added that he would sell another 10% on the 27th.
