Meta, Snap, and TikTok Collaborate to Eradicate Suicidal Content

Todaysgist.com, Jakarta – Three social media giants that now have many users, namely Meta, Snap, and TikTok, founded a program called Thrive.

This program is the third attempt by social media to stop the circulation of graphic content (containing violence) that seems to encourage people to harm themselves or commit suicide.

As quoted from The Verge, Friday (13/9/2024), Thrive allows Meta, TikTok, and Snap to share “signals”, to warn each other about violative content on their platforms.

Thrive is a program developed with the Mental Health Coalition, a charity that says it works to remove the stigma around mental health issues.

Meta says they provide the technical infrastructure behind Thrive, which allows signals to be shared securely.

Meta uses the same cross-platform signal sharing technology used in Lantern, a program to help combat online child abuse.
