Ministry of Communication and Information: Telegram Has Responded to the Removal of Online Gambling After Being Given a Warning Letter

The discourse of blocking several social media is currently being widely discussed by the public. The blocking will be carried out by the Ministry of Communication and Information because several social media are suspected of contributing to online gambling and pornographic content.

After the issue of blocking Twitter or X by the Government, now there is an attempt to block Telegram because it is involved in promoting online gambling and pornographic content.

The application blocking policy is actually not something new because it has previously been implemented when dealing with social media accounts spreading hoaxes during elections and blocking online gambling sites.

Based on data as of January 2024 released by the Ministry of Communication and Information, it is recorded that there are around 800,000 online gambling websites that have been blocked by the Government.

From 17 July 2023 to 30 December 2023, a total of 805,923 pieces of online gambling content were blocked.

Previously, the number of online gambling content that had been blocked was 30,013 content for the period 17 July – 31 July 2023, 1 August – 31 August 2023 with 55,846 content, 1 September – 30 September 2023 with 96,371 content, and 1 October. — October 31, 2023 as many as 293,665 contents.

Furthermore, in the period 1 November – 30 November, 160,503 contents were blocked and finally in the period 1 December – 30 December, 168,895 contents were blocked.
