Monday, PSSI Decides on the Case of the Assault of the Referee in the Aceh vs Central Sulawesi Match at PON XXI

Jakarta, Todaysgist.com – PSSI Secretary General Yunus Nusi said that the decision regarding the beating of the referee who led the men’s soccer match between Aceh and Central Sulawesi (Sulteng) at PON XXI will be taken on Monday (23/9/2024).

“Hopefully, by Monday night there will be a decision that will later be submitted to the general chairman (PSSI General Chairman Erick Thohir),” said Yunus in Jakarta, Saturday (21/9/2024).

It was said that PSSI, including himself, had come to Aceh to investigate the case on Wednesday (18/9/2024).

Yunus said that the PSSI investigation team was led by the Chairman of the Appeals Committee, Ali Mukartono.

PSSI has summoned and requested information from seven match officials on duty at the Aceh vs Central Sulawesi match, including referee Eko Agus Sugih Harto.

Yunus ensured that PSSI will listen to the perspective of the Central Sulawesi team player who hit referee Eko, Muhammad Rizki Saputra. “We are calling player Rizki to attend a hearing on Monday,” he said.

The men’s soccer quarter-final match of PON XXI Aceh vs Central Sulawesi on September 14, 2024 at the H Dimurthala Stadium, Banda Aceh, was won by Aceh even though the match was tied 1-1. Central Sulawesi withdrew from the match.

Central Sulawesi was dissatisfied with the referee’s performance in the match. That was also the reason why Muhammad Rizki Saputra hit referee Eko Agus until he collapsed at the end of the match.

PSSI General Chairman Erick Thohir said the incident in the Aceh vs Sulteng match was embarrassing and promised to impose heavy sanctions on all parties involved.

“There will definitely be a thorough investigation. Indications of unfair play are serious material to be reviewed. The players’ reactions will certainly result in very severe sanctions,” he said.
