News of MU’s move for Matthijs de Ligt is getting louder

Jakarta, Todaysgist.com – Bayern Munich sporting director Max Eberl has responded to speculation that Matthijs de Ligt will move to Manchester United this summer.

New United owner Jim Ratcliffe is in the midst of a major rebuild of his backline. Leny Yoro has been brought in from Lille to replace Raphael Varane. Willy Kambwala has also left, while Victor Lindelof is set to be sold.

Two more players are being targeted, namely Bayern right-back Noussair Mazraoui as a replacement for Aaron Wan-Bissaka who will join West Ham. MU also needs a left-back and is targeting Matthijs de Ligt.

United are also hoping to lure De Ligt away from the Allianz Arena this summer, after their first bid for him was rejected by the German club.

Bayern president Eberl has also spoken out about the news. He refused to talk about the speculation while De Ligt is still at Bayern. He told Sky Sports“I will comment on the reasons when the time comes. It is not the time yet.”

“Matthijs played very well here for two years and that’s why many fans like him. However, you have to think about how you make decisions and also how he feels. He still plays for FC Bayern. As long as he is here, he will have all our support,” he explained.

United boss Erik ten Hag is keen to bring De Ligt to Old Trafford having worked with the defender during their time at Ajax. He also listed the former Juventus defender as a target when he first arrived in charge of United in 2022, although United’s previous attempts were unsuccessful. De Ligt has held extensive talks with United to confirm his willingness to join the club this month.

According to Manchester Evening Newsthe 24-year-old has personally expressed his readiness to join the Red Devils. However, there is no agreement between the two clubs.
