Ninth Detec Open Becomes Magnet for Young Indonesian Tennis Players

Jakarta, Todaysgist.com – The National Championship (Kejurnas) titled Detec Open in Yogyakarta which was held on 12-18 August 2024 became a magnet for young tennis players in Indonesia. Nearly 300 young Indonesian athletes participated in honing their talents in the event.

In the ninth edition, this national championship will roll out six age groups (KU), namely 8, 10, 12, 14, 16, and 18. Except for the youngest KU, each KU will hold two events, singles and doubles, for each gender.

“Our target is inseparable from previous years. By holding national championships consistently, we strive to maintain the quality of junior tennis players’ matches. For that, we hold each KU,” said Tournament Director Anshari Nursida.

To make the national championship titled PP Pelti Recognized Tournament (TDP) a success, ten hardcourt fields are available in two locations. Six at the Yogyakarta State University tennis court and four at the Gadjah Mada University tennis court. Although separated, the two arenas are only one kilometer apart, 15 minutes on foot.

“We are trying to fill the gap in the national championship match schedule. Therefore, the number of participants is not as many as in previous years. Approximately, 280 young tennis players participated,” said Anshari Nursida.

Nevertheless, Detec Open still maintains the quality of the organization. The chair umpire judges since the first round in each KU. So is the presence of two ball kids, who faithfully pick up balls on both sides of the field.

In the men’s sector, they are Faid Ramadhan (KU 10), Kiefer Federer Hartono (KU 12), Reavan Rio Suryana (KU 14), Rafa Jeconia Verdasco (KU 16), Akmal Junaini (KU 18). In the women’s sector, they are Ratu Athena Putri (KU 14), Callista Rosiana (KU 16), and Lailatul Fajria (KU 18).

The consistency of the implementation of this national championship is in line with the mission of the Deddy Prasetyo Tennis Club (Detec). Deddy Prasetyo, the founder and head coach, said that coaching is an elementary factor for the achievements of national tennis. With competitive matches, young tennis players will hone their mentality and techniques.
