Novak Djokovic Finally Wins Long-Awaited Olympic Gold Medal

At the age of 37, Djokovic finally managed to win the gold medal. In a thrilling men’s singles tennis final at the 2024 Paris Olympics, Sunday (4/8/2024), Djokovic managed to beat Carlos Alcaraz of Spain with a score of 7-6 (3) and 7-6 (2).

“I put my heart, soul, body, family, everything on the line to win the Olympic gold medal,” Djokovic said, as quoted by AP.

The 2-hour, 50-minute final was a rematch of the Wimbledon final won by Alcaraz three weeks ago. Although Djokovic admitted he often gets frustrated playing against the younger, faster Alcaraz, he came out on top this time.

“Honestly, when the last shot went through, that was the only moment I really thought I could win the match,” Djokovic said.

Djokovic’s long wait finally arrived. As the Serbian national anthem finished, Djokovic reached for the gold medal and brought it to his lips to kiss it.
