Only 1 Pit Stop, George Russell Wins Belgian GP
Jakarta, Todaysgist.com – George Russell unexpectedly won the Formula 1 (F1) Belgian GP race at the Spa-Francorchamps Circuit. The British racer only made 1 pit stop and achieved his second victory of the season.
The race started with Charles Leclerc who was able to get a good start and lead the race. While Lewis Hamilton managed to get a better start than Sergio Perez and took second place.
Lando Norris, who started fourth, ran off the track and lost three positions. Max Verstappen, who started 11th due to a penalty, gained two positions on the same lap.
Entering the 3rd lap Lewis Hamilton managed to take over the lead of the race from Leclerc. George Russell and Max Verstappen entered the pit at the end of lap 10. Both changed their tires to hard tires.
On the next lap Hamilton, Perez and Piastri did the same. Piastri who had lost his position to Russell managed to take back his position. While Piastri took over Sergio Perez’s position.
On lap 21 George Russell overtook Sergio Perez. After losing position again, Perez pitted for the second time.
On lap 26 Charles Leclerc pitted again to try to undercut Hamilton. Reacting to Leclerc’s pit, Hamilton also pitted and made a quicker tire change than Leclerc.
On lap 28, it was Verstappen and Sainz’s turn to pit for a tire change, with Verstappen using the medium tire on his second pit stop. In response to Verstappen’s pit stop, Norris also changed his tires on the following lap.
Oscar Piastri, who was leading the race, entered the pits, but was slow and came out behind Hamilton and Leclerc.
George Russell, who was leading the race after the driver in front of him entered the pit, decided to continue the race using the tires he had been using since lap 10.
Lewis Hamilton, who was on newer tires, began to close in on Russell. Oscar Piastri, who took third place from Charles Leclerc, also slowly caught up to the Mercedes duo in front of him.
Russell then managed to hold on to win the race followed by Hamilton and gave Mercedes their first 1-2 since the Sao Paulo GP in 2022. Meanwhile, Oscar Piastri completed the podium in third.
Charles Leclerc who started from pole position finished fourth followed by Verstappen and Lando Norris. His fifth position further strengthened Verstappen’s position at the top of the standings.
