Other Sectors Can Imitate PSSI to Build a Conducive Ecosystem for the Diaspora

Jakarta, Beritasatu.com – Executive Committee Member and PSSI Spokesperson, Arya Sinulingga, stated that the public’s positive support for the naturalization policy for Indonesian National Team players was due to PSSI’s success in creating a conducive ecosystem for diaspora players.

Arya made this statement in response to a national survey conducted by Indonesian Political Indicators with the theme “Public Attitudes towards the National Team Player Naturalization Policy.”

According to the Founder and Main Researcher of Indonesian Political Indicators, Burhanuddin Muhtadi, in a survey that took place on 10-15 October 2024, it was revealed that the majority of respondents supported the naturalization policy initiated by PSSI Chairman Erick Thohir.

The survey results showed that 71.5% of 1,200 respondents in 38 provinces agreed or strongly agreed with Erick’s steps to naturalize players of descent from various countries to strengthen the Indonesian national team.

Arya explained that the various policies implemented by PSSI General Chair Erick Thohir in an effort to transform Indonesian football had contributed to improving the national team’s achievements at the Asian level. This is an attraction for diaspora players to defend the Red and White.

“When Mr. Erick led PSSI, the national team achievement program was a top priority, so support was fully directed there, including through the addition of naturalized players such as Jay Idzes and Nathan Tjoe A On,” said Arya.

According to Arya, the player naturalization policy has increased the achievements of the Indonesian National Team, increased FIFA rankings, and positive public response because these players have become idols.

“They are proud to defend the Red and White. Defending for the national team is the dream they pursue as footballers. The ecosystem built by Mr. Erick and PSSI for diaspora players, in my opinion, should be emulated by other sectors,” said Arya.
