Jakarta, Todaysgist.com – Indonesian women’s singles Gregoria Mariska Tunjung will meet Thailand’s representative Ratchanok Intanon in the quarter-finals of the badminton event at the 2024 Paris Olympics, Saturday (3/8/2024).

Jorji, Gregoria’s nickname, advanced to the last eight after defeating Kim Ga-eun in a dramatic three-game battle with a score of 21-14, 8-21, and 23-21. The world number 9 player defeated Kim in 55 minutes.

Meanwhile, Ratchanok Intanon advanced straight to the quarter-finals after winning the preliminary round of Group E. She defeated Lianne Tan of Belgium 21-8 and 21-8, and defeated Tai Tzu Ying of Taiwan 21-19 and 21-15.

Meanwhile, Gregoria became the winner of Group G of the 2024 Paris Olympics qualifying round after defeating Polina Buhrova of Ukraine 21-10 and beating Tereza Svabikova of Czechia 21-12 and 21-18. This position made her advance to the last 16 and then defeated South Korean representative Kim Ga-eun.

Gregoria is currently 24 years old. She was born in Wonogiri on August 11, 1999. Jorji is 166 centimeters tall and weighs 57 kilograms. Her best ranking was seventh. Intanon is a badminton player from Thailand and is now 29 years old. She was born in Yasothon on February 5, 1995. Intanon is 169 centimeters tall and weighs 58 kilograms.

She once perched in first place in women’s singles on April 12, 2016. However, now her ranking continues to drop to 21st place.

Intanon has won three gold medals at the SEA Games and was also the champion at the Asian Championships in Wuhan 2015. Intanon has also been the champion at the 2018 and 2019 Malaysia Masters, 2019 India Open, 2020 Indonesia Masters, 2022 Malaysia Open, and 2024 Spain Masters.

Jorji has met Intanon in nine previous matches. He only won once against the Thai representative and the other eight matches ended in defeat. Jorji’s victory against Intanon occurred in their last meeting, namely at the 2024 Uber Cup. At that time Jorji won two straight games with a score of 22-20 and 21-18.
