Patrick Kluivert Reveals Reasons for Making Alex Pastoor and Denny Landzaat Assistants to Manage the Indonesian National Team

Jakarta, Beritasatu.com – The new coach of the Indonesian National Team, Patrick Kluivert, revealed the reasons behind his decision to collaborate with two of his compatriots, Alex Pastoor and Denny Landzaat, as assistant coaches in Indonesia.

In an interview with Dutch media, De TelegraafKluivert explained that he had a good relationship with Pastoor, whom he had known for a long time.

“I took a professional football coaching course with Alex. We have a close relationship,” said Patrick Kluivert, Wednesday (8/1/2025).

Alex Pastoor’s Track Record
Alex Pastoor, who started his coaching career after retiring as a player in July 2001, previously coached AZ Alkmaar U-19 as head coach. He then became assistant coach of Heerenveen before taking over the position of head coach at various senior clubs.

His coaching career in the senior team began at Excelsior in July 2009. After that, he coached several clubs, including NEC Nijmegen, Slavia Prague, Sparta Rotterdam and SC Altach, before finally managing Almere City.

His greatest achievement was bringing Sparta Rotterdam to win the second caste of the Dutch League in the 2015/2016 season, which also led to the club being promoted to the Eredivisie.

Pastoor’s last season with Almere City was also quite impressive, because he managed to bring the club promotion to the Eredivisie before finally finishing in 13th position last season.

“At Almere City, he proved his ability as a reliable coach. He is a true professional,” said Kluivert about Pastoor.

Denny Landzaat Loyal Partner
Denny Landzaat, who retired as a player in 2014, was also Kluivert’s choice to accompany him. Landzaat is an old friend of Patrick Kluivert when they both played at Ajax Amsterdam.

Most of Landzaat’s coaching career was spent as an assistant coach, including working with coaches such as John van den Brom and Pascal Jansen. He also has experience understanding Indonesian culture and knows a little Indonesian.

“He is a very loyal and competent assistant. With his experience and knowledge, I am sure he will be a valuable asset for our team,” said Patrick Kluivert.

Collaboration in Indonesia
Patrick Kluivert, together with Alex Pastoor and Denny Landzaat, are scheduled to arrive in Indonesia on Saturday (11/1/2025) and will be officially introduced to the public on Sunday (12/1/2025).

This trio will begin their duties by leading the Indonesian national team in two third round qualifying matches for the 2026 World Cup. The Garuda team will face Australia on March 20 2025 at the Sydney Football Stadium, and Bahrain on March 25 2025 at the Gelora Bung Karno Stadium, Jakarta.

With the support of a solid coaching staff, Patrick Kluivert hopes to bring new achievements to the team squad Garuda on the international stage.
