In a move that promises to make cryptocurrency transactions easier, PayPal has announced the integration of the Ethereum Name Service (ENS). The payments platform will allow users to send crypto assets directly to ENS addresses, instead of relying on the long and complex alphanumeric codes of wallet addresses.

The functionality, which will also be available on Venmo, simplifies the process of sending cryptocurrencies, making it more secure and intuitive

ENS, launched in 2017, is a system that turns cryptocurrency wallet addresses into readable, easy-to-remember usernames, such as “username.eth,” for example.

This system replaces the long and complicated addresses that users would normally have to enter manually. In practice, this reduces the chance of errors in transactions. With over 2 million names registered on-chain and another 4 million off-chain, ENS is already widely adopted on the Ethereum network.

The PayPal and Venmo integration allows users to simply enter the recipient’s ENS name when making a cryptocurrency transaction. The system will then automatically fill in the correct wallet address.
