Pep Guardiola smiles again in his 500th match with City

Manchester, Beritasatu.com – Pep Guardiola can smile again in his 500th game as Manchester City coach. Pep Guardiola has several reasons to smile again after the Premier League match against Leicester, Sunday (29/12/2024).

City marked Pep Guardiola’s milestone with victory. Two goals were scored by Erling Haaland and Savinho.

Haaland played well against Leicester. This is marked by a goal. Scoring goals is something the Spaniard once took for granted, but has become increasingly rare of late for the struggling four-time Premier League champions.

Savinho also scored his first goal for the club in a much-needed win, although the team still looks far from the juggernaut that has dominated English football for much of the Spaniard’s reign.

Leicester had several chances to equalize before Savinho set up Haaland for the second goal in the 74th minute as City ended a five-game winless run in all competitions.

“Just relieved, that’s the right word to describe how we all feel,” said Pep Guardiola.

“It wasn’t an ideal performance, but hopefully a win will make our mood better. Hopefully in the new year we can recover a little from the bad moment,” said the former Barcelona coach.

Savinho put the team ahead in the 21st minute by pouncing on a rebound after Phil Foden stepped forward and attempted a low shot from distance which was parried by Leicester goalkeeper Jakub Stolarczyk. The ball fell into the path of the sprinting Savinho, who lifted it over the keeper and into the net.

The winger then turned provider by sending a perfect cross into the box for Haaland to head home the second, shortly after Jamie Vardy missed a good chance to equalize for Leicester.

This is the second victory for the club coached by Pep Guardiola in 14 matches in all competitions.
