Plt Menkominfo Mahfud MD: The BTS Project in 3T Areas Will Continue, If Not Continued It Could Be a Loss

Liputan6.com, Jakarta – The government stated that it is still working on the continuation of the Base Transceiver Station (BTS) project for the 3T (frontier, remote and underdeveloped) regions, after the arrest of former Minister of Communication and Information (Menkominfo) Johnny G. Plate.

“Right now we are still trying to continue. Because it’s a project multi-years which has lasted 14 years. If it is not continued, it will be a loss,” said Plt. Menkominfo Mahfud MD in his press conference at the Kominfo Office, Jakarta, Monday (22/5/2023).

The Coordinating Minister for Politics, Law and Security (Menko Polhukam) said the project would run as part of a national policy strategy in the field of communication and information, with sophisticated and up-to-date technology.

“Different from legal cases. Legal cases will continue to be carried out in accordance with what was done by the Attorney General’s Office,” added Mahfud, in a press conference broadcast on Kemkominfo TV’s YouTube.

Furthermore, the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs also said that he had contacted the Attorney General’s Office and would open himself up if he needed information or required an examination of the Ministry of Communication and Information regarding this case.

Previously, Mahfud MD had also visited the State Palace after being appointed Acting Menkominfo to replace Johnny G. Plate. He admitted that he would meet President Jokowi to discuss his duties and obligations as Plt Menkominfo.

“Today I am facing the President for a special agenda, namely my duties as Plt Menkominfo,” said Mahfud MD to the media crew at the State Palace in Jakarta.
