Polygon, a leading scaling solution for the Ethereum blockchain, has officially announced the migration of the MATIC token to the new POL token, which will take place on September 4, 2024.
This move marks a significant evolution in Polygon’s infrastructure, as POL will become the new native gas and staking token for the Polygon Proof-of-Stake (PoS) network.
POL is the new token that will replace MATIC on the Polygon network, playing a central role in the AggLayer project, a crucial aggregation layer for Polygon’s multi-chain ecosystem. AggLayer connects several components within the network, including the PoS chain, which is known for facilitating fast and low-cost transactions for users.
The migration will be carried out in several phases, and Polygon has assured MATIC holders on the PoS chain that they will not need to take any action for this transition.
However, those holding MATIC on Ethereum, Polygon’s zero-knowledge rollup zkEVM, or centralized exchanges may need to manually migrate their assets to the new POL token.

Analysts indicate that the Moving Average Convergence Divergence (MACD) indicator suggests underlying positive momentum in MATIC’s price trend, which could signal continued gains as the POL migration date approaches.
With the transition to POL, the Polygon network is expected to further strengthen its position as a leader in scalability solutions for Ethereum.
