President Jokowi Proud of Rizki Juniansyah Winning Gold at the 2024 Gold Olympics

Jakarta, Todaysgist.com – President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) expressed his pride in the success of young lifter Rizki Juniansyah at the 2024 Paris Olympics. Rizki Juniansyah made history as the first Indonesian lifter to win a gold medal in the international sporting event.

The gold won by Rizki was also the second gold for Indonesia at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

“The second gold medal for Indonesia was presented by Rizki Juniansyah from the men’s 73 kg weightlifting class,” said Jokowi as quoted from the X account @jokowi, Friday (9/8/2024).

Rizki recorded a total lift of 354 kg with a lift of snatch 155 kg and lift clean and jerk 199 kg.

“Rizki managed to break the Olympic record for weightlifting clean and jerkand became the first Indonesian weightlifter to win a gold medal at the Olympics. Thank you Rizki, congratulations!” said Jokowi.

The athlete born in Serang, Banten on June 17, 2003 became the 15th Indonesian athlete to win an Olympic gold medal. He made weightlifting the third sport to win an Olympic gold medal, after badminton and rock climbing.

Indonesia’s first Olympic gold medallist made Indonesia Raya resound in the weightlifting arena, after 24 years of seniors trying hard to do so in six Olympics. For the first time since the 1992 Barcelona Olympics, Indonesia has again collected two gold medals.

Weightlifting has a tradition of contributing Olympic medals to Indonesia since the 2000 Sydney Olympics.

At that time, one silver medal from Raema Lisa Rumbewas and two bronze medals from Sri Indriyani and Winarni, all female lifters, complemented the gold medals won by the men’s badminton doubles Tony Gunawan/Candra Wijaya, as well as two silver medals won by the women’s singles Minarti Timur and the men’s singles Hendrawan.

Since then, weightlifting has never failed to contribute medals for Indonesia, even weightlifter Eko Yuli Irawan has been loyal in contributing medals from four Olympics, starting from 2008 in Beijing to Tokyo 2020.
