PSSI Explains Reasons for Appointing Coach from the Netherlands as Shin Tae-yong’s Replacement

Jakarta, Beritasatu.com – The Indonesian Football Association (PSSI) revealed the reasons for choosing a coach from the Netherlands to replace Shin Tae-yong in managing the Indonesian national team.

“Yesterday Mr. Erick Thohir (PSSI General Chair) said that the new coach for the Indonesian National Team is from the European continent and his country is specifically from the Netherlands. “Because we know that most of our diaspora players are from the Netherlands,” said PSSI Deputy Chairperson Zainudin Amali in the program BTV Live: PSSI Answers Patrick Kluivert’s Question, Tuesday (7/1/2025) evening.

Although he did not mention the name of the Dutch coach, Zainudin Amali said there were three candidates for the Indonesian National Team coach. Of the three candidates for the Indonesian National Team coach, one person will be selected who will be announced by PSSI on January 12 2025.

A number of Indonesian media, including Dutch media, have reported three candidates for the Dutch coach to replace Shin Tae-yong, namely Patrick Kluivert, Louis Van Gaal and Giovanni van Bronckhorst.

“We know that the current Indonesian national team players are grade A players who play in European competitions in general. Domestically they also play in League 1, where the competition is already competitive,” according to Zainudin Amali.

Dutch coaches were chosen because they already understand European football culture with experience playing and coaching clubs. “This coach decides because they are leaders in a team. “This coach has a program, and that program must be communicated well to the players,” continued Zainudin Amali.

According to him, no matter how good the coach’s program is, if it cannot be communicated well to the players, it will not be implemented on the field. Zainudin Amali also stated that the requirements for the new coach of the Indonesian National Team must also be able to speak English well.

“Well, that’s one of the reasons why we chose Europe, especially the Netherlands, and hopefully what we decide is the best decision,” said Zainudin Amali regarding the reasons for appointing the Dutch coach.
