The decentralized project Pump Scienceaimed at combining memecoins and longevity research, was the target of an attack that compromised its account on the platform PumpFun and your original wallet.
According to the announcement, published on November 26 on X, the attack occurred after a known attacker take control of the project portfolio and start creating fraudulent tokens.
The project team alerted users so as not to trust new tokens launched by the “pscience” profile on PumpFun. This is because such tokens are not from the platform.
The attack occurred due to an error by the development team, which accidentally published the wallet’s private key in your code, exposing it in the public PumpFun interface. With this, the attacker gained access to create new tokens from the project’s original wallet.
Attack on Pump Science
In response, the PumpFun profile name was changed to “dont_trust”as a way of alerting users. Additionally, Pump Science has partnered with on-chain security platform Blockaidwhich started to flag new tokens created by the compromised wallet with warnings in transaction and token scanning APIs.
The project announced that will not launch new tokens even do full audits of your smart contracts and user interface. Additionally, the team stated that it will implement a bug bounty program.
Launched in September, the project Pump Science aims to allow users to fund longevity research involving drugs and chemical compounds through memecoins created on the platform. The proposed model uses tokens that represent fractional rights over interventions. These tokens are sold to fund experiments.
In the week before the attack, the project had gained prominence due to the significant appreciation of native tokens RIF and URO. This is because cryptoactives have reached market values in the nine figures.
