Saudi Arabia Holds Australia to a Draw
Jakarta. Beritasatu.com – Saudi Arabia managed to hold host Australia to a goalless draw in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers in Asia group C, Thursday (14/11/2024).
In this match at the Rectangular Stadium, Melborne, both teams tried to carry out attacks to break through their opponent’s goal. However, until referee Adel Ali Ahmed Khamis Alnaqbi from the United Arab Emirates blew the long whistle no goals were scored.
Even though they appeared at the opponent’s home ground, Saudi Arabia apparently controlled more of the ball in this match. They recorded 57% possession of the ball, compared to Australia which was only 43%.
The team coached by Harve Renanrd was also able to make more precise kicks on goal, namely three. Meanwhile, Australia, currently managed by Tony Popovic, only managed to make one precise kick at their opponent’s goal.
Australian goalkeeper Joe Gauci had to make three saves. Meanwhile, Saudi Arabia goalkeeper Ahmed Al Kassar made one save to save his goal from being conceded.
This result keeps Australia firmly in second place with six points. Meanwhile, Saudi Arabia is also in third place with six points. Japan is still firmly at the top with 10 points.
The match in Group C of the 2026 World Cup qualification in the Asian zone will continue with Bahrain’s match against China at the Bahrain National Stadium, Riffa, on Thursday (14/11/2024) at 21.00 WIB.
On Friday (16/22/2024), the Indonesian National Team will meet their guests Japan. This match will be held at the Senayan Main Stadium starting at 19.00 WIB.
