SEA Games 2023: Set a Record, Swimmer Siman and Masniari Wolf Contribute Gold

– On the second day of the SEA Games 2023 Cambodian swimming event, the Indonesian team added to their collection of two gold medals in the final match at the Morodok Techno Aquatic Center, Sunday (7/5/2023).

Senior swimmer, I Gede Siman Sudartawa opened the faucet for Indonesia’s gold medal after winning the men’s 50 meter backstroke.

Siman recorded a time of 25.16 seconds, beating Jerard Dominic Jacinto (Philippines) 25.56 seconds and Quah Zeng Wen (Singapore) 25.61 seconds.

This was Siman’s fourth gold medal in the 50 meter backstroke at the SEA Games, having previously won gold in 2011, 2017 and 2019. After the medals were collected, Siman immediately could not hide his tears when he was hugged by coach Albert Sutanto.

“We really have a target for Siman to win a gold medal. He is still the best in his number,” said Albert.

Another gold medal was donated by Masniari Wolf who also made history back to back or defending the gold medal in the women’s 50 meter backstroke. In the final, Masniari, who is of German-Batak descent, recorded the fastest time of 28.89 seconds. This is a SEA Games record and also a national record. The previous SEA Games record of 28.90 seconds belonged to Tao Li (Singapore) in 2015. Meanwhile, he set his own national record of 29.21 seconds at the 2022 Vietnam SEA Games.

“I didn’t expect that I could also set a SEA Games record. Just swim fast and you can get a gold medal,” said Masniari, who was witnessed by his mother from the stands.
