Shin Tae-yong Reveals the Reason for Mees Hilgers’ Absence

Jakarta, Beritasatu.com – Indonesian National Team coach Shin Tae-yong (STY) revealed the reason defender Mees Hilgers was absent from defending squad Garuda in the match against Japan in the third round of qualifying for the 2026 World Cup in the Asian zone, group C, Friday (15/11/2024).

Shin Tae-yong revealed this to the media crew through his translator Jeong Seok Seo or who is familiarly called Jeje. He said that Mees was not permitted by his club FC Twente.

“It wasn’t Coach Shin who didn’t call, but his club Mees who didn’t release his players,” said Jeje to reporters at the GBK Madya Stadium, South Jakarta, on Tuesday (12/11/2024).

Based on monitoring Beritasatu.comat 17.50 WIB at the Madya Stadium, Mees was not seen participating in training with the other Indonesian national team players. Meanwhile, Rizki Ridho et al appeared to be starting their training in preparation for fighting Japan.

Shin Tae-yong also explained the reasons why FC Twente did not give Mees permission to join in strengthening the Garuda National Team. The most expensive national team player is absent because he is recovering from an injury.

“(FC Twente) did not release the player because because his hamstring was not good, in the end he couldn’t be called up,” added Jeje.

The Indonesian national team is scheduled to play against Team Japan in the third round of Group C of the 2026 World Cup Qualifications in the Asia Zone. The match will be held on Friday, November 15 2024 at the Gelora Bung Karno Main Stadium (SUGBK), at 19.00 WIB.
