Sociedad Coach Confirms Mikel Merino To Arsenal Next Week

Jakarta, Todaysgist.com – Real Sociedad coach Imanol Alguacil has given a very clear hint that Mikel Merino will join Arsenal next week.

The Real have been in transfer talks with the Premier League side for over a month and a deal is reportedly close to completion.

Merino was left out of Real Sociedad’s opening game of the season, at Alguacil’s request. He will leave Sociedad for Arsenal in a deal worth €35 million (£29.5m) and will be agreed before the transfer window closes on August 30, 2024.

Alguacil’s side suffered a 2-1 home defeat to Rayo Vallecano as Martin Zubimendi came off the bench to score after rejecting a move to Liverpool.

The coming days will be decisive for Sociedad’s transfers, but Alguacil plans to target at least one midfielder. “There are no two players like Merino and Le Normand, but they are not here,” he explained as quoted by Marca.

“I can’t even say Zubimendi won’t leave at the last minute. They are irreplaceable players for us. We can’t find excuses when these players are not here,” he added.

Next up for Real Sociedad is a trip to Catalonia to face promoted Espanyol on August 24, 2024 followed by a Basque derby against Alaves.
