XProtocol, a Layer 3 Ethereum network, is about to launch XForge, a gaming-focused smartphone that promises to revolutionize the mobile device market with a focus on Web3 and compete with Solana’s Seeker. The device should hit the market later this year, according to the announcement.

The smartphone will support the Base blockchain, a Layer 2 blockchain developed by Coinbase that has been gaining popularity.

The XForge, powered by Android, will cost around $299 and will feature robust specs, including 256GB of storage and 12GB of RAM. XProtocol described the device as the world’s first “DePIN phone.” The acronym refers to the “Decentralized Physical Infrastructure Network”, an emerging concept in the universe of decentralized networks.

Additionally, XForge will allow users to participate in airdrop campaigns and receive rewards through the XProtocol protocol.

Competition

As the company announced, 10% of the total XProtocol tokens will go to XForge owners. For the first 10,000 buyers, the phone will include a Xardian node, entitlement to 20% bonus node rewards, plus exclusive airdrops. XForge pre-sales should begin soon, according to a statement from the team.

The launch of XForge by XProtocol comes amid growing competition in the smartphone market focused on Web3 and cryptocurrencies. Just a week earlier, Solana Mobile had announced its second Web3 smartphone, called the Seeker.

Seeker will come equipped with a native hardware vault for digital keys and a mobile wallet. Additionally, it will support payments, DeFi, NFTs, and blockchain-based gaming.

Additionally, each unit of Solana Seeker will generate a Seeker Genesis Token, a non-transferable asset that will unlock exclusive rewards and special content within the Solana ecosystem. The Seeker will cost US$500, with delivery expected in 2025.

Another strong competitor is the JamboPhone 2, launched on September 20th by Jambo. This affordable $99 smartphone is also based on the Solana blockchain and brings advanced features such as real-time data ingestion and large-scale language models (LLMs) tuned with crypto expertise.

With the growing demand for devices that integrate Web3 functionalities, the market for smartphones focused on cryptocurrencies and decentralization is expanding.
