Strength of Indonesian Contingent at 2024 Paris Paralympics Increases

Jakarta, Todaysgist.com – Minister of Youth and Sports (Menpora) Dito Ariotedjo stated that the strength of the Indonesian contingent at the 2024 Paris Paralympics this time has increased compared to the previous period in Tokyo.

This prestigious sporting event for athletes with disabilities will be attended by around 4,400 athletes from 169 countries, including the Indonesian contingent which is sending 35 Indonesian Paralympic athletes for 2024. With this larger number, Dito is confident that he can produce better achievements.

So for this year, the Indonesian contingent will be represented by 35 Paralympic athletes from 10 different sports. This number has increased from the previous Paralympics held in Tokyo, 23 athletes from seven different sports. The number of Indonesian contingents this year also exceeds the target of the National Paralympic Committee (NPC), which is 28 athletes,” he said at a press conference at the Kemenpora office in Senayan, Jakarta, Wednesday (28/8/2024).

Dito believes that the Red and White athletes can once again show the charm of the nation on the world stage. For that, it is hoped that the public will support and pray that Indonesian athletes can give a strong and solid performance so that they can make the nation’s name famous on the world stage.

Motivation and support will be given directly by Minister of Youth and Sports Dito by visiting the 2024 Paris Paralympics event that will be competing.

Regarding his own target, he hopes to be better than the 2020 Tokyo Paralympics. Dito did not mention the number of medals targeted. However, he hopes for better results than the previous Paralympics.

“For the Olympics and Paralympics, we don’t brag too much because we know the level of competition, the gap is very far compared to the Asian Games. Let alone the SEA Games,” he said.

Jersey Design

The Minister of Youth and Sports also appreciated Indonesian designer Didiet Maulana who collaborated with Mills to create the costume or jersey design for the Indonesian contingent that will compete in the 2024 Paris Paralympics. He wants this costume to be mass produced because he learned from the 2024 Paris Olympics yesterday.

Minister of Youth and Sports Dito also expressed his pride that the jerseys that will be worn by Indonesian athletes who will compete in the 2024 Paris Paralympics are the work of the nation’s best sons. According to him, by combining the potential of sports, youth, creativity, and culture, it will increase the spirit of Indonesian athletes who will fight to make the nation proud on the world stage.

“We should be proud that the jerseys worn by our athletes are the work of the nation’s best son, Mas Didiet Maulana,” he said.

Meanwhile, Didiet Maulana explained that the motif on the jersey carries the theme Sandya Niskala. In Sanskrit, Sandy means unity and Noetic means strong and sturdy. He hopes this collaboration will increase public enthusiasm to support the struggle of Indonesian athletes.

Didiet explained that the design and color patterns in the costume are expected to increase the enthusiasm of Indonesian athletes who are fighting in the 2024 Paris Paralympics.

“From these colors, IKAT Indonesia by Didiet Maulana wants to present an energetic nuance, new spirit, and good hope for Indonesian athletes who have fought in the competition,” he concluded.
