STY Believes the Future of Indonesian Football is Bright

Jakarta, Beritasatu.com – Indonesian National Team Coach Shin Tae-yong (STY) believes that Indonesian football has a bright future. This was conveyed by Shin Tae-yong in a press conference ahead of the Indonesia vs Japan match in the third qualifying round for the 2026 World Cup Asia Zone, Thursday (14/11/2024).

“Indonesia is very developing and this is the first step and in the future it will definitely develop much better than now,” said Shin Tae-yong.

Shin Tae-yong has managed the Indonesian national team for four years since being introduced to the Indonesian football public at the end of December 2019.

Since then, Shin Tae-yong has made a number of achievements for the national team in both age and senior groups. In the senior national team, the coach from South Korea succeeded in qualifying Garuda for the 2023 Asian Cup. This was the first time the Red and White team appeared in the Asian Cup since 2007.

STY also brought Garuda through for the first time to the third round of qualifying for the 2026 World Cup. Currently, he and his team are struggling to create achievements and history, namely qualifying for the 2026 World Cup.

Indonesia did qualify for the World Cup in 1938. However, at that time Indonesia was still known as the Dutch East Indies. So, qualifying for the next edition of the World Cup will be history in itself for the Red and White.

However, Shin Tae-yong is optimistic that Indonesian football can progress regardless of whether or not it qualifies for the 2026 World Cup.

“I still believe that Indonesian football will be more advanced, regardless of whether we qualify for the world cup or not. Indonesia’s football infrastructure will change for the better and is developing too. One day Indonesian football will definitely compete in Asia, not ASEAN. ” said the 54 year old tactician.

Currently, the Indonesian national team is still struggling in the third round of qualifying for the 2026 World Cup in the Asian zone. Squad Garuda is in group C and is in fifth place with three points from three draws and one loss.

Next, the Indonesian national team will face group C leaders Japan with 10 points thanks to three wins and one draw.

The Indonesia vs Japan national team match will be held at the Gelora Bung Karno Stadium (GBK), Friday (15/11/2024) evening WIB.
