STY Reveals Reason for Not Calling Striker Jens Raven to Indonesian National Team

Jakarta, Todaysgist.com – Indonesian National Team Coach, Shin Tae-yong (STY), stated that he will wait for Jens Raven to develop physically, technically and mentally before calling him up to the senior team.

Raven recently came into the spotlight after his impressive performance when he led the Indonesian U-19 National Team to win the AFF U-19 Cup in Surabaya.

During the tournament, Raven scored four goals and provided three assists in five matches, including one goal in the final against Thailand U-19 at Gelora Bung Tomo Stadium, Surabaya.

This brilliant performance has made many people hope that Raven will soon be promoted to the senior team. However, when asked about the 18-year-old striker’s chances, STY chose not to rush into including him in squad senior.

“When I saw him live in the Netherlands, I saw some shortcomings. So, he has to go through a process step by step“said STY when met by the media while watching the 2024/2025 Indonesian League 1 match between Malut United and Persebaya Surabaya at the Gelora Bung Karno Madya Stadium, Jakarta, Friday (16/8/2024).

The South Korean coach explained that he did not want to put too much pressure on Raven, who is currently developing in the youth team coached by Indra Sjafri.

“We want to create a conducive environment so that he can develop gradually and remain focused on improving his potential and abilities. So, we will see how the development process goes,” he added.

STY will soon return to train the Indonesian National Team which will compete in the third round of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers in the Asian zone next September.

Indonesia is scheduled to face Saudi Arabia at the King Abdullah Sport City Stadium, Jeddah on September 6, 2024 at 01.00 WIB for the opening match, and will then play a home match against Australia at the Gelora Bung Karno Main Stadium, Jakarta on September 10, 2024.
