Sumaryanto Reveals Key to Success of Son Veddriq Leonardo

Pontianak, Todaysgist.com – Veddriq Leonardo, a rock climber from Pontianak City, West Kalimantan, won a gold medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics, Thursday (8/8/2024). His father, Sumaryanto, revealed the key to his son’s success.

“We feel proud because we have brought honor to the name of our family and even the Indonesian nation,” said Veddriq’s father, Sumaryanto in Pontianak, West Kalimantan.

Sumaryanto said that Veddriq is a persistent and disciplined person, so this achievement is the fruit of his hard work that paid off.

“Since his school days, there was never time to play around. He was indeed diligent and disciplined. Since he was little, he liked challenges,” he said.

Sumaryanto said that the family is very supportive of Veddriq to excel in sports. Perseverance and discipline are the most important things that the family continues to encourage.

“Discipline, continue to motivate Veddriq so that he is strong and able to achieve,” he said.

The father hopes that the third of five siblings, remains humble. Although a world champion, Veddriq is asked to be humble and this achievement does not make him complacent.

“Hopefully we will remain humble, make the nation proud and continue to be better,” he said.

Veddriq has been involved in rock climbing since he was in the second grade of high school. Initially, he had a hobby of rock climbing. His professional steps began in 2018 when he became a sparring partner on the national team.

The man born in Pontianak, March 11, 1997, has now collected many medals and trophies from various championships, both national and international, and has broken the world record for rock climbing.

“He intends and vows to make our family better. He is the backbone of the family too,” said Sumaryanto.

Previously, competing at Le Bourget Sport Climbing Venue, Paris, Veddriq Leonardo qualified for the final and met Wu Peng from China. In the final match of the 2024 Paris Olympics, Veddriq became the winner with a time of 4.75 seconds while his opponent was 4.77 seconds.
