Sunday, September 1, Riau Leads PON 2024 Medal Count

Jakarta, Todaysgist.com – The National Sports Week (PON 2024) in Aceh and North Sumatra will only be officially opened on September 8. However, several sports are already competing for medals.

As of Sunday (1/9/2024) afternoon, the Riau contingent is still leading the medal tally with six gold, three silver, and two bronze. Meanwhile, Jakarta is in second place with five gold, three silver, and one bronze.

East Java is in third place with three golds, four silvers, and two bronzes. Below them is the host Aceh with one gold and one silver. West Java and North Sumatra are in fifth place after winning one gold.

The six golds mentioned by Riau all came from the artistic gymnastics branch. This achievement also brought the province to become the overall champion of the artistic gymnastics branch.

Overall, the Riau artistic gymnastics contingent won 11 medals consisting of six gold, three silver and two bronze in all men’s and women’s categories.

Riau’s first gold medal was won in the men’s team artistic gymnastics event, collecting 224.226 points from the six categories competed in.

After that, Riau’s gold medal came from Abiyu Raffi who won three golds after excelling in the individual all-around gymnastics, floor gymnastics and parallel bars.

Agung Suci Tantio Akbar, who previously won gold in the individual saddle horse event in artistic gymnastics, has now added two medals, one gold and one silver.

Meanwhile, another Riau gymnast, M Aprizal, won two silver medals and one bronze medal, and Puja Sri Syafitri also contributed a medal for Riau after winning a bronze medal.

With this achievement, Riau emerged as the overall champion in the artistic gymnastics sport after beating DKI Jakarta and East Java.

DKI Jakarta won five gold, three silver and one bronze or obtained nine medals. Then, East Java won three gold, four silver, two bronze.

Artistic gymnastics is a sport that will be competed in the 2024 PON. The sporting event will be held at the Multipurpose Building of the North Sumatra Youth and Sports Service, Deli Serdang Regency since August 28, 2024.

The 2024 PON artistic gymnastics was attended by 36 athletes from 16 provinces consisting of men’s and women’s categories competing for 14 gold medals.
