Telegram took a significant step towards integrating technology NFTs (non-fungible tokens) on your platform.
Starting this month, the messaging app will allow users to transform digital gifts in NFTs, using your internal currency Telegram Starswhich is linked to the Toncoin (TON)the blockchain’s native token The Open Network (TON).
Launched in October 2024, the digital gifts from Telegram are personalized animations and messages that can be sent to users to celebrate special occasions or simply to interact in a fun way.
Users can receive and display these gifts on their profiles. Now, with the new update of 2025these items can be transformed into tradable NFTsallowing users to not only customize them but also sell them or exchange them in secondary markets, such as Getgems.
Telegram: how does conversion to NFTs work?
By upgrading their digital gifts, users will have a new custom designcreated by Telegram artists. Each NFT will gain additional features, such as background color, icon and numberto make it unique.
Users will be able to transfer these NFTs for other profiles or auction them in markets like Getgemswhich operate on the TON network. To perform this conversion, users will need to pay a small amount in Telegram Starswhich covers transaction fees on the blockchain.
This new functionality marks the deepening Telegram in the Web3 universe. In 2023, the platform had already launched the TON Spacea self-custodial wallet allowing users to interact with the blockchain The Open Network more easily and quickly.
In 2024, Telegram also announced the ad revenue sharing with channel owners, paying them in TON.
Furthermore, the launch of StarsTelegram’s in-app currency, allowed developers sell digital products within the application, such as mini apps and games, with Stars being convertible to Toncoin.
