Furthermore, The Lions will travel to Bukit Jalil Stadium, Kuala Lumpur, on 20 December 2024, to face their arch rivals, Malaysia. Singapore only needs a draw to advance to the semifinals, while a defeat will hand Malaysia a ticket to the 2024 AFF Cup semifinals.

The last time Singapore reached the semifinals of this tournament was in 2021, before being eliminated by Indonesia.

Singapore started their campaign in the 2024 AFF Cup with a 2-1 win against Cambodia in the opening match, thanks to goals from Faris and Shawal. This victory was followed by a landslide 3-0 victory over Timor Leste in Hanoi. A penalty from Kyoga Nakamura and two additional goals from Shawal sealed the win.
