Triathlon Postponed as Seine River Exposed to E. Coli Bacteria

Paris, Todaysgist.com – The men’s triathlon event at the 2024 Paris Olympics scheduled for Tuesday (30/7/2024) has been postponed due to poor water quality in the Seine River. World Triathlon said in a statement that bacteria levels Escherichia coli (E coli) in the river is still too high

The decision is a blow to organisers who previously said they were confident water quality would improve in time for the race.

The 55 triathletes who were set to compete today now face even more uncertainty.

“Although the water quality has improved over the past few hours, at some points the swimming course is still above acceptable limits,” the organizers were quoted as saying. France24.

If bacteria levels remain too high by Wednesday (1/8/2024) morning, the men’s and women’s races will likely be postponed until Friday (3/8/2024).

Paris has previously promised to make the Seine a swimmable river, with Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo taking a dip in the river earlier this month in an attempt to convince doubters.
