U-20 World Cup: Beat Guatemala, Argentina Ensure Top 16 Tickets

– Argentina confirmed tickets to the last 16 of the U-20 World Cup after beating Guatemala, 3-0, at the Estadio Único Madre de Ciudades, Santiago del Estero, Wednesday (24/5/2023) early morning WIB.

Meanwhile, in the other match in Group A, Uzbekistan drew 2-2 against New Zealand.

The second win in the group stage made the Young Tango Team secure a ticket to the top 16. Javier Mascherano’s team has already won six points after previously beating Uzbekistan 2-1.

They have one match left against New Zealand on May 26. The second position in Group A is occupied by New Zealand which has won four points. Uzbekistan, which has only one point, is in third place, while Guatemala, who has not won any points, has always lost in the two matches they have played.

Playing in a stadium filled with around 37,000 spectators, Argentina started their lead thanks to Alejo Veliz’s goal in the 17th minute. The Rosario Central player successfully broke into the opponent’s goal after taking advantage of Juan Carlos Gauto’s pass with a header.

Guatemala had to play with 10 men since the 58th minute after Carlos Vargas was sent off for getting a second yellow card. Seven minutes later, Argentina added to the lead thanks to Luka Romero’s goal. This Lazio player brought his team to a 2-0 lead by maximizing Maximo Perrone’s shot.

In the 82nd minute, it was the turn of the Argentine player Tomás Avilés who was sent off by the referee. This defender had to leave the field because he received a second yellow card.

In injury time, Argentina added another goal and ended the game with a 3-0 advantage. Team Tango’s third goal was scored by the makers assists the second goal which is also a Manchester City player, Maximo Perrone.

In other matches Uzbekistan drew 2-2 against New Zealand. New Zealand won 2-0 first through goals from Ben Wallace in the 23rd minute and Jay Herman in the 41st minute.

But Uzbekistan bounced back in the second half and leveled the score thanks to the actions of Abbosbek Fayzullaev in the 51st minute and Sherzod Esanov at the end of the match.
