Veddriq Leonardo Trending Topic, Contributes First Gold Medal to 2024 Olympics for Indonesia

Veddriq Leonardo began his struggle on Thursday (8/8/2024) afternoon WIB by challenging Bassa Mawem from France in the quarter-finals of the 2024 Paris Olympics.

The Indonesian representative recorded a smooth start with a time of 4.88 seconds, which automatically took him to the semifinals because his opponent was only able to complete the climb in a duration of 5.26 seconds.

Veddriq then faced Iranian representative Reza Alipour in the last four after his opponent defeated Kazakhstan’s rock climber in the quarterfinal phase. The Indonesian athlete continued his impressive performance by recording a time of 4.78 seconds, slightly ahead of his opponent who finished the climb in 4.84 seconds.

The result ensured that Veddriq would contribute a medal for Indonesia. He will next be challenged by Wu Peng in the final round for the gold medal, with the Chinese athlete advancing to the top match after beating world record holder Sam Watson from the United States with a time of 4.85 seconds, while his opponent finished with 4.93 seconds.

Veddriq Leonardo managed to record a time of 4.75 seconds which brought him the first gold medal for Indonesia. Meanwhile, Wu Peng who also performed brilliantly from the start had to be satisfied with contributing a silver medal for his country because he finished with a time of 4.77 seconds.
